How to Make a Skeleton Costume for Halloween

Learn how to make a glow in the dark skeleton costume for Halloween from a costume and makeup expert in this free series of Halloween videos.

Series Summary

Make no bones about it, skeleton costumes have long been a favorite for Halloween. Ever since evil corpses have been rising from their graves--picked clean by worms and maggots—to terrify the living, kids and adults alike have dressed up to look like they are not wearing anything but their bones. But the United States can hardly compare to Mexico and Latin American for the prominence of this costume. It is the outfit of choice for the huge Day of the Dead celebration every November. Mexican illustrator and engraver José Guadalupe Posada popularized skeletons as parodies for the upper classes in his newspaper satires in the late 19th and early 20th century. Other popular images in film include the dancing skeletons in Ray Harryhausen's The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad, the singing skeletons in Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas and the swashbuckling skeletons in the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie. In this series of spine chilling costume videos, our Halloween authority tells you how to create a glow-in-the-dark skeleton costume that would have scared the Dickens out of Charles himself. Matt Cail tells you what kind of clothes and shoes will go best with you costume and demonstrates how to paint them with glowing paint. He also shows you the perfect face paint to go with this outfit. Not sure how to accessorize your skull and bones? Expert Village has the answer.
