How to Care for a Pet Snake

In this free video clip series, our expert will show you how to choose the type of reptile best suited for your home. When choosing a pet snake, there are many things to consider, such as the family, the snake's health, and feeding requirements.

Series Summary

For some people, dogs and cats are not the ideal pet, and they begin to search for a more interesting and dynamic animal for their home and family. While snakes might not immediately come to mind for many people during the consideration process included during the pet hunt, more and more people are discovering that the fascinating reptiles are great pets. Though pet snakes will likely live in a glass case and remain safely contained away from their owners, the disassociation only goes so far: snake owners need to be prepared to handle their pets at various times (vet visits, tank cleanings) and accept the fact that all snakes are carnivorous, meaning they will have to acquire mice, eggs or rats for their consumption. Just like a future pet owner does research on dog and cat breeds when considering a new pet, families and individuals who want to consider a snake as a pet must do the proper research and learn about the different types of reptiles and their needs before making a purchase.

In this free video clip series, our expert will discuss the various issues to consider when shopping for a pet snake. In these videos, you will learn how to decide if a snake is right for you and your family, which breeds are best suited as pets (and which ones absolutely aren't), precautions you should take when making the purchase, and tips for taking snakes to the vet. You will also gain insight into ongoing care techniques for snakes, including information about carbonating tanks, choosing a pet store, and providing your new pet snake with proper housing, bedding and general care.
