However, the facts can not be denied, and unfortunately, women are targeted for a variety of violent crimes. The National College Women Sexual Victimization Study estimated that between 1 in 4 and 1 in 5 college women experience completed or attempted rape during their college years. The study also shows that men tend to be major perpetrator of violent acts against women. While this sends chills up anyone's spine, it becomes painfully obvious that we have to protect ourselves. We have to rise above the fear of experiencing a violent attack, and learn to do something about it. If we let the threat of violent assaults control our emotions, we are giving those aggressors just the thing they are looking for. As women, we have the power to rise above the these threats. The principle way to do this is to learn how to defend yourself.
