Cosmetic makeup has been used for years to enhance the natural beauty of women around the world. When used on stage or in a movie, makeup takes on a role of its own. Special effects makeup can be as simple as a cut or a scar on the face or as complicated as full-body character makeup. Do-it-yourself special effects makeup is easier than you might think and can be done using things you have around the home.

In this free video series, our experts Grace Fraga & Brad Schecter will teach you how to do special effects makeup. They will teach you how to apply gelatin, black makeup, and red to make it look like burning and charring. They will also teach you how to make fake shards of glass and attach them to the face. Finally, they will apply the fake blood and teach you all the things you'll ned to do-it-yourself.

About the Presenter

Brad Schecter Brad Schecter has been involved with makeup effects for more than 20 years. He began learning about stage makeup as a child actor in community theatre. He became fascinated with special effects makeup, as many people did after seeing Michael Jackson's video for "Thriller." He started watching horror movies and was inspired by makeup artists such as Tom Savini ("Friday the 13th," "Day of the Dead"), and Academy Award winner Rick Baker ("An American Werewolf in London"). <p> At age 9, Brad began producing, directing, and acting in haunted houses every Halloween, where he turned all the neighborhood kids into zombies, monsters, and serial killers for lines of people around the block. At age 17, he raised over $1500 for the Torrance High School theatre department in a single weekend with a haunted house where he made up more than 250 students to scare the living daylights out of paying victims. He also did the makeup effects for "Operation Sober" for the City of Torrance.dkdk
