Vastu, or vaastu, is an ancient belief system from India which promotes harmony between man and nature through the construction and arrangement of homes and other buildings according to their orientation with the earth. Similar to feng shui in that it focuses on architecture and design as related to structures and buildings, vastu also incorporates rudimentary elements of astronomy. Since our planet rotates from west to east, buildings which are lower on the east side and higher on the west will be more likely to be filled with positive energy from the east.
Within this system of cosmic alignment, all sectors of the house have been assigned characteristics which play a role in maximizing the potential of the residents within. The north-east corner of a building is represented by unstable elements, and therefore not a good place for a bedroom. The south-east corner of a house is represented by the element of fire, and is therefore a good place for the kitchen, and so on. A house built according to these principals will promote the a harmonious balance of the people who live there. But if your house was built without these guidelines in mind, you can still use vastu to improve your situation.
A few simple vaastu solutions can be effective. A vastu expert may be able to improve the energy of your house simply by removing a painting or rearranging furniture. But when an expert is unavailable, you may be able to solve your problem by placing remedies in the appropriate section of your home or business.
