How to Clean a Makeup Puff

Your makeup puff, made to perfectly powder your nose, gets dirty after a while. Not only does powder, blush or foundation get caked onto the puff, oils and bacteria from your skin are transferred from the puff into the actual makeup. Give your makeup puff a thorough cleaning once a week so your makeup goes on smoothly and you don’t risk contaminating your powder with germs.

Step 1

Tap the makeup puff on a clean paper towel to remove as much loose makeup as possible.

Step 2

Fill a bowl half full with warm water. Add two to three drops of mild laundry detergent. Stir up the soap and water with a spoon.

Step 3

Submerge the makeup puff in the soapy water. Swish it around in the water for a minute or two, and then use your fingers to thoroughly scrub the puff to remove any caked-on makeup or dirt.

Step 4

Rinse the makeup puff under warm running water until all of the soap is gone. Pat it on a towel to remove the excess water. Then lay it out to air-dry completely.

Step 5

Put the makeup puff into a mesh laundry bag and wash it in the washing machine for an alternative cleaning method. You can place other delicate items in the bag as well, such as buffing cloths and makeup sponges. Wash the bag in a load by itself or with other garments that require the same laundering setting. Run the puff through a gentle wash cycle using warm water and mild laundry detergent. Lay the puff flat to air-dry.
