Many scholars believe we live in a post-literate world, a culture where reading is less important than it once was. Advertisements, the internet, picture menus at fastfood restaurants—they all point to a world in which reading has become a thing of the past. Then again, living in America and not being able to read is a tragedy. If we promise “no child left behind,” how dare we let kids graduate without learning how to read? Teaching our kids to read is the responsibility of parents and teachers.
