Flossing is one of the best ways to keep your teeth and gums healthy and clean. Dental floss is made from either a bundle of nylon filaments or plastic ribbon and is inserted between the teeth and scraped along the sides in order to remove food debris and dental plaque from the teeth. When used in combination with toothbrushing, flossing has been proven to prevent gum disease, halitosis and cavities. While many people do not floss, the consequences can range from annoying to extremely painful. Allowing food debris and bacteria to gather along the gums can lead to many unpleasant things, including permanent gum damage.
