It is actually the name of several disco dances that were made popular in the 1970's, but now mostly refers to a unique partner dance done in night clubs and ballrooms. The Hustle was developed in New York City and Florida night clubs among the Hispanic communities. It is based on older dances similar to the mambo and salsa, with some swing dance influences as well.
