Boogaloo is a musical fusion of African American and Latin tastes that originated in 1960's. With the intermingling of Cubans, Puerto Ricans and other Latin Americans with African Americans in the United States, night clubs sought to cater to both groups' musical tastes. Boogaloo contains traces of doo wop, jumb blues, R&B, guaracha, guajira, and son montuno. The dance itself is interpretive and improvisational.
In this free video series, our expert Safi Thomas will tell you all about the history of boogaloo dance, teach you how to fell the music, and use your feet. Safi will show you how to use all the parts of your body in Boogaloo dance including, head, arms, torso, knees, and feet. He will teach you how to do isolations, waves, and air walks before giving you some boogaloo choreography and a full demonstration.
