Originally used for communication rather than music, drums are the world’s oldest musical instrument, and their basic design has remained unchanged for hundreds of years. These pieces often are played with wooden drum sticks but also may be played with wire brushes or soft mallets. Drums keep the beat to modern songs and add signature flourishes, such as drum fills.
