How to Play the Fiddle

Learn about the fiddle and learn how to play the fiddle in this free online instructional video series.

Series Summary

The fiddle produces a distinct sound that is heard in genres of music including folk, bluegrass, Cajun, Arabic, Canadian, Balkan and country music. The fiddle is basically the same as the violin, but sometimes has identifying modifications. Historically, the word “fiddle” referred to an early predecessor of today’s violin. Sometimes, with fiddles, the bridge of the instrument is slightly less curved than that of the violin. It is played much in the same way as the violin, but sometimes with different bows. The bows are generally the same as the classical, though heavier and crude. Commonly, a fiddler will play with a glass bow.
