Most people think that it is impossible to walk on water... not the case thanks to this video clip series on snowshoeing! All you need now is a 32 degree rainy day outside and some webs on your feet and you can walk across stretches of frozen rain for as long as you like. They work by distributing a persons weight over a larger surface area so they don't sink into the snow. Snowshoes were originally developed over 4000 years ago probably somewhere in central Asia for hunters and travelers to be able to cover large areas of frozen terrain in search of food or shelter. Today they allow for competitive runners and athletes to continue to train throughout the winter months in areas covered in snow.

Today in this video clip series our expert Sheryl McGlochlin will give you some great advice and tips on snowshoeing from how to choose the shoes to strapping them on to safety tips that just might come in handy the next time you're on the trail. Snowshoeing is not only a great way to keep in shape but also a necessity in some ares of the world where snow is as common as rain. It's tricky maneuvering in these clunky foot accessories but Sheryl will give you some advice on how to side step, walk forward and backwards and even run. By the time you're done watching these videos you'll look like a natural athlete...with big flat feet!
