Fleas and ticks are common among household pets especially cats and dogs. Prevention of these parasites is important to the health of your pet as well as the people in your home. Infestation of your pet can lead to the same for your carpet and anywhere else your pet is allowed access. There are several products available on the market that, when used correctly, are very effective. Flea collars, sprays, and shampoos are only a few of the products that are able to help rid your house and pet of these pests. They should, however, be used with caution as they are considered a poison and could be harmful if swallowed.

About the Presenter

Elise McMahon Elise McMahon has a Ph.D. in animal behavior and has been working with both domestic and wild dogs since the early 1990s. She began studying domestic dogs in the behavior clinic of the Veterinary Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania. McMahon held a position there for two years and co-developed the Puppy Problem Prevention Program with Lois Hall. During that time, she was also working with a local trainer, Steve Lindsay. Prior to earning her degree, McMahon was a private animal behavior consultant. After completing her fieldwork on Chilean foxes, she opened a training center and began providing both private and group classes, as well as individual evaluations and consultations.dkdk
