Hi, I'm Robert Herdan, owner of West Oaks Tile, and today I'm showing you how to drill a hole into ceramic tile without breaking it. Okay, so today we're going to drill a hole in our ceramic floor tile. You can drill holes because you need to put a screw in the floor, to mount a light, to put up a handrail. There's other applications but you want to get the hole into the floor without breaking your ceramic tile. So, what you'll do is you'll take your hammer and your nail punch and where you've already marked the tile for your hole, you will lightly tap with the hammer just enough so that you can see that you put a little score mark on the tile. All this will do will help you steady the drill bit in its place so it doesn't go dancing around on you on the floor and it actually puts the hole where you want it to be. So now, we'll go ahead and take the drill and start the actual hole because we've tapped our hole and we've gotten it marked and so we take our drill bit and actually start to drill it. Now, one of the things I do to help keep the breakage of the tile is I take my sponge which is wet and I put a little water on the hole and then I'll drill a little bit and then after a while I'll go ahead and I'll pull the drill bit out and I'll take the sponge and put a little more water on the hole and drill a little bit and I'll keep repeating this process until I've gotten the hole through the ceramic tile. The reason for this is that when you're drilling the hole what's going to happen is you're going to create a lot of friction and this friction will create the heat which in turn can break or crack your tile. So by using the sponge with a little water you will remove a lot of the heat from the tile that's helping you to not break the tile. I'm Robert Herdan, owner of West Oaks Tile, and I've just shown you how to drill a hole in ceramic tile without breaking it.
