So to start with, don't bother being a bartender all day, prepare a drink ahead of time, a cocktail. Put it in a pitcher and set out some glasses, and that way guests can get their own drinks, and you are free to mingle and do what you want to do. I always like to set out plates and my silverware wrapped in napkins too, so my guests can just grab and go. And I set it all out, and they can take care of themselves. And it's important to have some finger food. I like to set out olives, and cheese, and crackers. Easy stuff that's great at room temperature. And that way, when your guests arrive, they can start snacking right away. And it gives them an opportunity to mingle a little bit. And you don't have to carry around hors d'oeuvre trays all day, which, who wants to do that? And then for your main course, don't bother making something that needs to be served piping hot. Do things that are great at room temperature, like pasta salads, frittatas, quiches. And you can also go to your kitchen and grab one of these, a colander.
