How do I Unstack a Kenmore 417-8114200 Clothes Dryer?

Kenneth Crawford

The Kenmore 4178114200 clothes dryer is a versatile unit. It can be a stand-alone dryer or you can stack it on top of a front-load washer to save space. When you need to make repairs, you will likely find it necessary to unstack the Kenmore 4178114200 clothes dryer. The stacking kit for this dryer has brackets at the front and rear of the unit. The front securing screws are hidden behind caps that blend in with the color of your dryer.

  1. Unplug the Kenmore dryer power cord from the wall outlet. Turn the screw securing the duct hose clamp to the rear of the dryer counterclockwise two turns with a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the dryer duct away from the dryer.

  2. Turn the gas valve to the "Off" position, if you have a gas version of the 427-8114200. The gas valve is on the house pipe behind the dryer and before the flexible line. If you have a lever handle, it should point away from the line when in the "Off" position. Valves with knobs turn clockwise to shut-off the gas supply. Disconnect the gas supply line at the joint between the dryer and the gas shut-off valve.

  3. Go to the front of the washer and dryer and look for two small round caps. Pry the caps off with a flat-head screwdriver to reveal the bracket mounting screws. Remove the screws with a Phillips screwdriver.

  4. Lift the front of the dryer with the help of an assistant. Pull the dryer forward to unhook it from the rear brackets. Pull the dryer completely off the washer and set it carefully on the floor.
