How to Decorate a Fireplace Mantle for Summer

Hi, I'm Julie Heiland, owner of J. Heiland Interiors of Phoenix, Arizona. Today, I'm going to show you how to design a fireplace mantle for the summer season. We have several elements that are reminiscent of summer in the beach using clear glass hurricane candle holders, filling them with sand and then adding a candle kind of gives you that, brings the outside in. Also, just lots of shelves and kind of keeping the color scheme basic and white. And then I have a couple of books just wrapped in white paper just to kind of keep the look clean and crisp. And I added a photograph of the beach from a vacation and this is also a great way that you could add a personal element to an arrangement you do in your own home. So we've got all the elements put together here, the final piece is going in. Starting with each end to kind of frame the arrangement I put the hurricane candles on each end and then just adding interest as just different kind of different vignettes within the entire picture. So the books, rather than having two stacked on top of each other I just put one and added a monogram for some interest and just arranging the shelves in a way that looks pleasing, kind of keeping in mind odd numbers, one shelf, three shelves and then the jar of shelves in the middle with the picture frame on the other side. So this design is, is, is a simple arrangement kind of keeping with the simplicity of the season, summer is a time that's more laid back, there's less going on. I wanted to use those themes in this arrangement. Simple and yet it kind of gets the point across of what we're trying to convey.
