Hi, I'm Hilary Talbott, acupuncture physician and clinical herbalist. Today, we'll be discussing acupressure for a stiff neck. The first point that can be really effective in treating a stiff neck, is Gallbladder 21. It's located at the high point of the Trapezius muscle. Which is this, kind of, muscle that runs along the top of our shoulders, here. To find the point, you're going to come to the center, and squeeze the muscle. And then, look for a divot in the belly of the muscle, it's often quite tender. And you're just going to stimulate this point with a couple fingers, with firm pressure. This is also nice to be pinched, and then, pressed. Another point in the local area of the neck, is Bladder 10. Bladder 10 is located along the Bladder Meridian, that comes up just either side of the spine. Until you come to the base of the skull, again, there's a little divot here. This is great, if you have a stiff neck, especially, result of a cold or flu symptom. This will often times do wonders to relieve a locked up neck. And then, finally, another point located on the hand, for a stiff neck, is Small Intestine 3. Small Intestine 3 is where the red and the white skin meet, on the lateral side of the hand. Just below the Pinky joint, right about here, even with this crease. This point is especially effective, because it mirrors a neck, on the hand. And it also opens the Du Meridian, which goes right up the spine, through the neck and into the head. So, this is one that you can indiscreetly do on yourself, without even touching your neck. There are various other points, that might be utilized in treating a stiff neck, especially if it's chronic.
