Hi, my name is Chris Palmer. In this segment, I'm going to show you how to install and use bench dogs in your work bench. Bench dogs are essentially pegs that stick into your work bench and protrude, so you can push your work against them and hold your work in place. First off, they can be made out of wood. This one is turned, and this square part sticks up above the bench top surface. These ones are store-bought. They are metal, and you can see the head keeps it from falling all the way through. If you want to make them yourself out of dowel, just drill a hole through the center and slide a smaller dowel through the center. That will hold it in place, and they'll work great. To set this up in any kind of work table or work bench that you have, just take a bit, drill holes that your pegs will fit in nicely. Now, even just having a couple here, now my workpiece won't slide around if I'm sanding it or hand planing it or whatever. Also, to use it in conjunction with a vice, I register the work against those two dogs and then put a couple there. Now, when I tighten down the vice, this is really nice and secure. Thanks for watching. My name is Chris Palmer. That's how you use bench dogs.
