I'm Terry with Towers Murray Plumbing in Murray, Utah. Today, we are going to show you how and when to change the flapper in a toilet. Things to look for is discolorations in the, coming into the bowl. If you are getting black water, if you are getting black flakes into the tank or into the bowl it's time to change the flapper. If your toilet is running. If you got a constant run or if the system is turning itself on or off over a matter of 10 to 15 minutes maybe a good indication that your flapper has developed some problems, needs to be replaced. It's deteriorated or maybe even warped. First thing to do is you remove the clip from the lever. Now, a lot of people want to replace just their chain. In most cases, if your chain is bad, so is your flapper. Replace them both at the same time. Reach down inside of your tank and unclip the little rubber off of each end. Flapper comes right out. Just keep in mind when you're changing the flapper first thing you want to do is turn that water off, flush the water out. Go ahead and change the flapper.
