I'm Terry with Towers Murray Plumbing in Murray, Utah. Here to talk to you about frozen pipes. How to prevent it and how to tell if your pipes are frozen. Some things that you can do to prevent it is make sure that any pipes that are exposed to the, to the elements during the winter are covered, heat, maybe some heat tape, insulate it. If you are doing any work on a home where you are going to be cutting to the outside make sure that those pipes are covered up. For instance, my house is a split entry home, pipe comes up underneath the stairs can get quite cold. It needs to be protected. If you wake up one morning, it's been a very cold night, you've got no water. Check all the fixtures in your home, kitchens, bathrooms, toilets. If you've got no water at that time, you may need to call in a professional. Professionals will come in with a hot box or a heating system where they'll actually heat the pipe and heat the ice up to melt it.
