My name is Dwan Kelsey, and I'm a nurse practitioner with wellLIFE, a diabetes clinic and educational resource center located in Raleigh, North Carolina. We'll be discussing the side effects of blood pressure medications. Blood pressure medications side effects can range from a headache to erectile dysfunction in men. And that is something that the patient and the provider have to be very aware of. And that the patient has to tell their provider that this is what's going on as soon as they become aware of it. A lot of the blood pressure medications we mentioned earlier about the ace inhibitors will cause a cough. And it's a cough, a persistent cough that typically wont' go away. It's not associated with a cold or an upper respiratory infection. It's just a cough that comes out of nowhere. Once major side effect for the men is that there are classes of blood pressure medications that will cause erectile dysfunction. We got to where we can switch men out to another type of blood pressure medication. Most blood pressure medicines are very tolerable. Once you have a side effect on one doesn't necessarily mean you going to have a side effect on another one even if it's in the same class of blood pressure medications. That was basic information. Make sure to consult with your health care provider.
