Hi, I'm Hilary Talbott, Acupuncture Physician and Clinical Herbalist. Today, I will be showing you some acupressure points to help alleviate ringing in the ears. Now, ringing in the ears, or tinnitus, is one of the most difficult conditions to treat in Western medicine, as well as Eastern medicine. So, I'm going to show you these two points in hopes that they give you some relief as far as diminishing the frequency of the ringing or the intensity of it. Gallbladder 20 is located at the occiput, the base of the skull where the mastoid process is. Mastoid process is this kind of little, tiny piece of bone that juts out right here, and so this point is actually in a divot, and is usually quite tender. And you want to use it on, on both sides; but, if you experience ringing in predominantly in one ear, then certainly use it on the side where it's happening in the ear. And then another local point are set of local points that can be used at the same time are, there's three little points located on the tragus. So, the tragus is this little pointy thing that comes off of the face and kind of protects the, the ear canal. And so, a lot of times they find that pinching this area, as well as stimulating this point, will sometimes help reduce the ringing. Now, if the ringing has been started as a result of loud music, or let's say, airplanes; like a lot of times we see pilots that have tinnitus, it's one of the more difficult types to, to get rid of. But, if it's the type that it's just kind of high in frequency and comes and goes for no reason, almost as if an electronic has been left on, a lot of times that's stress induced or induced by pharmaceuticals. And acupuncture can relieve tinnitus on those cases. So, I encourage you to seek our your local acupuncture physician and get a correct diagnosis for your tinnitus. I'm Hilary Talbott, and that was acupressure for ringing in the ears.
