I am Dr. Dicie Nathani with Holistic Vitality Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. I would like to share some information on how to relieve arthritis pain. Chiropractic manipulation is very helpful in relieving osteoarthritis pain. We have several different techniques that fall under chiropractic to help mobilize and move the joint and in addition to that techniques that will help to traction and open up the spine especially if the patient is experiencing disc degeneration or degeneration of the facet joints of the spine. Each vertebrae articulates with the next vertebrae via three joints. There's the two facet joints on the back of the spine and then, in the front of the spine, there are disc between each vertebral body. So, there are three opportunities for that arthritis to progress into gen, degeneration. It could be at the level of the disc and if the disc bulges or potentially herniates allowing the disc material inside to translate outwards. It can affect the spinal chord or the nerves as they pass out of the individual holes in the spine. So, a technique called flexion distraction is quite helpful in tractioning the spine and relieving compression of the nerve root and stretching the joint capsule and reducing pain that the patient feels from this nerve root compression. That was some basic information, but find a practitioner that will offer you preventative health care by addressing your bio-mechanics, your lifestyle and diet.
