I am Dr. Dicie Nathani with Holistic Vitality Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. I would like to share some information on how to reduce symptoms of arthritis. Arthritis is inflammation of the joint. So, anyway you can reduce stress on the joint is probably the first focus. Reducing your weight; of course excessive weight, anything that's over the amount recommended for your height would generally result in wear and tear in the joint. Arthritis breaks down the cartilage in the joint and eventually can result in bone on bone contact. And so, whenever there's bone on bone contact, you have excessive weight on the body, more wear and tear and potentially bony spur development or osteophytic development from that excessive weight. The second, I would say most important component is dietary. Foods such as grains can be very pro-inflammatory; processed foods, saturated fats, so meats that have a fat, a high fat content. So, focusing on foods that are nutrient dense such as fruits and vegetables, lean meats such as chicken and fish are great for improving the bio-chemistry of the body so you are less likely to be inflame. Exercise also is an important component to reducing the symptoms of arthritis. Flexibility is just as important as strength. If you have a joint that is not flexible, it increases the stress on that joint. That was some basic information, but find a practitioner that will offer you preventative health care by addressing your bio-mechanics, your lifestyle and diet.
