I am Dr. Dicie Nathani with Holistic Vitality Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. I would like to share some information on how to prevent rheumatoid arthritis. The exact cause of rheumatoid arthritis is not known. But, there have been lots of correlations with hormonal factors, environmental factors as well as genetic. So, the important thing to remember is less exposure to some of the environmental factors will maybe decrease your predisposition for the condition. So, activity such as smoking is a very oxidative stressful type of habit and it can also lead to the development of potentially rheumatoid arthritis. The next component is dietary. You know, if you have a diet high in saturated fats, high in foods with preservatives, processed foods, anything in a box is probably not a good idea to consume those types of foods and to eat a more nutrient dense diet like fruits and vegetables. The next important component is food allergies or food intolerances as it relates to all forms of arthritis, but especially rheumatoid. If you have a food that you are allergic to or that you are intolerant of it affects the absorption of foods and other food substances from the gut. So then, you have what's called a leaky gut and they have correlated very strongly dysbiosis or a leaky gut with rheumatoid arthritis. Dysbiosis is different in that it relates to the, the flora and the strands of bacteria that exist in your gut. And so, if want those healthy strands, you have to consume a diet that is healthy and promotes the, the cultures in your diet. If you're a person that has been on a lot of antibiotics, it is important to start to consume a probiotic or something that will help to balance out the gut flora. Focusing on, you know, dietary consumption as well as the gut is important to potentially eliminating environmental factors that may predispose you for rheumatoid arthritis. That was some basic information, but find a practitioner that will offer you preventative health care by addressing your bio-mechanics, your lifestyle and diet
