Hi, I'm JJ Virgin, nutrition and fitness expert of, and today I'm going to talk to you about cooking to lower triglycerides. Now, first I'm going to talk about what you shouldn't use so I'm going to give a shout out to damaged fats and refined carbohydrates and things that are high in sugar and you may not realize this. Like take Teriyaki Sauce, this is one that tends to have a lot of sugar added and these fruit juices that seem so healthy and in small amounts they are but be careful adding them to sauces, ditto for the honey because sugars, fruits, juices, refined carbohydrates these are things that really set your triglycerides soaring so what should you cook with? The big thing here is to start using spices. If you take something out like some of those damaged trans-fats, you've got to add something in so I love to add spices and two that I am going to shout out are cayenne pepper and red pepper. Why? Because they boost your metabolism and I don't know about you, I want all the help I can get. Next thing is olive oil. If you're cooking, use straight olive oil. If you're putting it in a salad, go ahead and use the extra virgin and then of course you're going to be eating some carbohydrates but boy this is all about the quality and you want to make sure here that you're getting things that are high in fiber and low on the glycemic index. So great, options are legumes especially lentils and black beans and then my personal favorite. I've replaced rice now with this and that's Quinoa. It's high in protein and it's high in fiber and finally of course eat from the rainbow and add in your vegetables. Love red peppers. They're high in Vitamin C so make sure you include those.
