Hi, I'm Hilary Talbott, Acupuncture Physician and Clinical Herbalist. Today, we'll be discussing acupressure for RA or Rheumatoid Arthritis. Now, sufferers of Rheumatoid Arthritis know that this can be quite painful and debilitating condition especially in acute exasperations. I'm going to show you some points today that could be used preventatively in between acute outbreaks as well as very softly and gently during times of painful swelling. The points are called Ba Xie and they're located by making a small fist. They're in between each of the joints and so, it's quite easy to take your hand and place your fingers and stimulate all of the points at once. And you just want to use a gentle circular rocking motion especially if you are experiencing an acute exasperation. It is, we all know that it just really really hurts when they're hot and red and painful. This helps to stimulate and open up the channels so we can gain circulation through the six channels of the hand. Another point that can be pumped on is Li 4 located in between the first and second bones of the hand, the high point of the muscle. And again, you only want to go as hard as you can stand especially during an acute exasperation. Now RA often affects other joints in the body such as the knees or the ankles. So, I'm going to show you one point on the knee that you can use. GB 34, the influential point of the tendons and ligaments of the entire body is found on the lateral side of the leg, just below the head of the fibula. It's often quite tender in someone that is experiencing joint problems. This one is going to take a little bit more pressure to stimulate. And again, you can use this point at either leg preventatively or during an acute flare. It's important to understand with the pattern of disharmony is that's causing your RA and I encourage you to visit your local acupuncture physician for a complete diagnosis. My name is Hilary Talbott and that was acupressure for RA.
