Hi, I'm Katy Hill. I'm a fourth grade middle school teacher, and these are some first day of school activities for first grade. For first grade, on the first day of school, I think you have to keep it really light and fun. They're still really little, and they've come from the Summer with their parents and with their families, and it's likely a hard first day. So, one thing that I like to do is to have them introduce themselves to the rest of the class, but they're kind of too young to just elaborate about their lives. So, one thing that you could try is to have them draw an object that describes themselves, whether that be an animal or a toy or something like that, if they're loud or if they're quiet, if they're strong, and then that kind of gives them a segue to kind of talk about themselves in more detail. I like to take them inside and outside, if the weather permits, and, you know, play some little team building games or some fun things to help them get acquainted with their friends, and also music is always good. They like that interactive music that allows them to have fun and sing along.
