Hi, I'm Katy Hill. I'm a fourth grade middle school teacher and these are some activities for the first day of school for fourth grade. This is a good activity that you can do maybe at the end of the first day of the fourth grade, after you have spent the day going over a ton of information from procedures for the day, rules for the classroom, how to get from one place to the other. I find that my kids love to write on these little individual white boards that we have. So, as a table, I set my class in pods of four and each pod has a white board and a marker and an eraser so they have to work as a team to answer the questions that I'm about to give them. So, just based on all the information that I've given them that day, I would ask them questions like for example, what time do we go to lunch or what subject do we normally do after math and so as a table they have to discuss it and come up with an answer and then with each question that I ask they have to give the supplies to a new person so that every person pretty much has to participate and then at the same time they are learning how to work in groups, and they're also getting to know other kids in their classroom.
