Hello, my name is Carol Hughes. I've owned and operated Custom Costumes and Tailor Made for 25 and 30 years. Today, I'm going to teach you some basics in ironing. So, this is how you iron a satin dress. This particular dress, I would begin with the straps and since we have a gathered bodice, we don't want to press down hard on that. So the thing there would be to use your shutter steam and your iron. And you really don't want one that leaks drips of water because they will stain your satin. Then, the next best thing would be to turn it inside out and iron it from the inside, so you avoid the shinies and the seams. Now, these days, most of your satin is made of polyester, so it's pretty easy to iron. Old fashioned satin made of acetate takes a little more effort. And then, you can slide down and do the bottom part. This is a long dress and again, you would go around. And when you're finished with that, of course turn it right side out and hang it up. My name is Carol Hughes and that's how you iron a satin dress.
