Hi, this is Jason Morgan with Muscleworx Fitness in Carolina Beach, North Carolina. Today, we are going to talk about exercises for a flat stomach. First and foremost, we have to address the myth of that you can spot reduce. You can't do a specific exercise or group of exercises for one area of the body such as abdominals to spot reduce and to lose fat. You are not just going to be able to do crunches day in and day out and have your abdominal area flatten out. First and foremost, you have to have your nutrition in place. If you don't have a sound nutritional program consisting of lean proteins, fibrous carbohydrates being, you know, fruits and vegetables; and some starchy carbohydrates, and eating frequently enough throughout the course of the day with smaller portions, you are not going to be able to shed the fat that's covering up the abdominal wall to be able to see that six pack that you seek. So, that's the first thing we have to understand. The second thing is there's a multitude of ab exercises that you can do. There's exercise ball crunches, there's decline movements, incline movements where we are doing sit ups or leg lifts using an incline or decline board. There's hanging knee raises, there's oblique twists. And then there's exercises such as compound movements like squats, bench presses, total body routines involving dumbbells that are going to cause you to hold your body upright and use the transverse abdominis to stabilize your body, which in turn flattens your stomach. Those are just a few exercises that you can do that help flatten your stomach.
