Hi, I'm Coreen from Shakes Bakes. And, right now, we're going to learn how to clean an eggplant. First, we're going to need our eggplant, of course, and we're going to need a couple tools: A knife, and a peeler. So, we're also going to use a bowl, or any sort of a container that you might have on hand. The actual process of cleaning the eggplant is quite simple. It's a matter of running the eggplant under cold water to remove some of the debris and impurities that might be on the actual eggplant. However, I'm going to go a step further, simply because it's common to find eggplants in the supermarkets that have been waxed, and many people don't want the skin on it. So, I'm going to go ahead and peel the skin off completely, and that's an additional step of cleaning that I'm going to do. The first thing you want to do after you get through rinsing your eggplant is to cut off the stem. So, you're going to place your knife right here at the bottom of the stem, and you're just going to cut it off, as you see me doing here. Just cut it, just cut it, and you're going to just cut it off. Beautiful. Get a little bit more of this, go a little bit deeper, make sure we got that stem off. Alright. After that, I'm going to take my peeler, and I'm going to go down, and peel the eggplant. So, if you're interested in peeling off the skin off your eggplant, this is how a clean eggplant should look.
