My name is Gordon McInnis. I work here at Carolina Beach Counseling at Carolina Beach, North Carolina, and today we're going to talk about how to gain self confidence. Cheating in an affair really does a number on your trust, your self-esteem, your self-confidence, how you view yourself, how you view, you know, how you think other people view you. So, it's not an easy thing. Again, I think it's one of the things that if you're really impacted by, you know, an affair or somebody who cheated, go talk to a therapist. You know, you really need to talk to somebody and explore some of these feelings and those kinds of things. Do things that are nice for you, you know. You don't want to go overboard, but, you know, you might want to get your hair done, you might want to buy that really cool electronic gadget, you might want to do some of those things. Obviously, you don't want to go too far and get yourself way in debt and those kinds of things, but you want to do things, you want to treat yourself well. You want to surround yourself with people that are positive and supportive, and care about you. You know. It doesn't necessarily mean that you have to talk about the affair or any of those kind of things, but you want to around people that are supportive and that have positive things. I also think getting yourself involved in something that's maybe bigger than you are, like volunteering, going to church, whatever it might be, it might be really, really helpful to help you get over you know, those kind of things. And keep doing your daily activities. The things that you normally do. Don't retreat from all of those kind of things. I think sometimes when we have traumatic things happen to us, such as an affair or those kind of things, we almost carry around, we almost think we're carrying around a sign that says I've been cheated on, or I've been treated badly so that everybody else knows. You know, everybody else knows what happened. No. Nobody else knows unless you choose to tell them. And you know,we get the sense well they must know, they must know something is wrong, that kind of thing. They really don't. They really don't. I always think of that commercial with the overactive bladder and the lady is wearing the sign coming out of the elevator with an overactive bladder and all this kind of stuff. We don't wear those signs. However we think that everybody knows that kind of stuff. So, you know, those are the kinds of things that I think you could do to raise your self esteem. As always, you should go seek professional help or go see your doctor if these things are continuing to bother you.
