Hi, I'm Charlotte Lawson, a registered and licensed dietitian. I have a little bit of information on how you can help improve your brain health or maybe sharpen your brain with some vitamins and minerals. But overall, the real key here is a well rounded diet. There is no particular one vitamin or mineral that has really been proven for excellent brain health or memory health. But, a combination of a few have had some significant research. For instance, our B complex vitamins, in particular our folic acid or folate, as well as vitamin B-12. Now, these both are fortified in a lot of the grains that we eat. So, cold breakfast cereals, sandwich breads, as well as enriched flour that we may bake or cook with. Now again, these are fortified meaning they are added to this product. Naturally-occurring sources of vitamin B-12 are going to be your animal sources. And that folate is going to be those green leafy vegetables and legumes, and nuts, and some seeds. Now, different things, actually vitamin D for instance, has had a lot of positive research not only just for overall health but immunity and again that brain health. Now, for overall brain development we want to look at our omega-3 fatty acids. They've had a lot of good research and even often adding it back to infant formula as for that brain health and development it's really been seen as a key component. Now, the omega-3 fatty acids are found in our nuts. and seeds, and legumes as well as our fatty fish. So look at maybe incorporating an extra serving of fish or maybe a tablespoon of peanut butter. Now again like I mentioned there's not one particular super food but a good combination of a well-rounded diet as well as some good sleep will help just keep your memory at tip top shape.
