Hi, I'm Charlotte Lawson, a Registered and Licensed Dietitian and I have some information on how to prevent Vitamin B12 deficiency. Keep in mind, Vitamin B12 is something our at, our bodies actually make; but, we don't make quite enough for our essential functions. So, it is very important to look at Vitamin B12 sources in our diet. Now fortunately, Vitamin B12 is actually mandated by law to be in the fortified foods that we eat. So, if you enjoyed cold breakfast cereal or sandwich spread or even like to bake when you're using an all-purpose enriched flour, Vitamin B12 has been added to that grain. Now keep in mind, I said again, our bodies make it. So that means, other animals produces vitamin as well. So, the best source of our dietary source really comes from animal products. This is your meats, your fish, your egg or dairy, all of these have a great source of Vitamin B12. Now, say for instance your lifestyle or your eating habits don't incorporate animal products. You will be more at risk for this vitamin deficiency; so, it might be extra important to look at your fortified grains and maybe even checking into a supplement. Now, consult your physician for an appropriate test to see if you are a Vitamin B12 deficient and actually do need that supplement. You can get a supplement either orally or by injection and they both work fairly well. So, look into animal products or those fortified enriched grains for excellent sources of Vitamin B12 in our daily diet. I'm Charlotte, and eat happy.
