Hi, I'm Charlotte Lawson, a registered and licensed dietitian. Now, if you live a vegan lifestyle, you may be wondering, what sources in diet, provide me with vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is actually something our body can make, in our gut, digestive system. However, we don't make quite enough, that our body actually needs for regular metabolic and normal daily functions. Now, because B12 is actually made by us and we are animals. You can imagine, the dietary sources typically do come from animal products as well. So, this is your meats, your eggs, your dairy products or cheeses. But, if you're a vegan, you'll be avoiding these products. Fortunately, vitamin B12 is mandated to be fortified in all of our grains and all purpose flours. So, if you enjoy cold breakfast cereals, sandwich breads, or even like to bake and cook at home and you use all purpose flour, vitamin B12 is actually in those items as well. So, definitely look to those sources. If you're really worried about it, have your physician or doctor do a test. To see if you're vitamin B12 deficient, and in that case and if necessary, he can prescribe you with a vitamin B12 supplement, either orally or by injection. So, again, if you're really worried and not eating, maybe, enough of those enriched and fortified grains, check with your physician for your appropriate levels. I'm Charlotte and eat happy.
