Hi, I'm Stan DeFreitas, Mr. Green Thumb for Rose 101, what do you need to know about roses? Well a couple of things. They're high maintenance. If you're going to grow roses, you need to have a bright sunny spot, about six hours of bright sun a day. You need a good water source nearby because you're going to have to water them probably a couple of times a week. You're also going to have to remember that they're heavy fertilizer users so you're going to have to have a good rose fertilizer and also I'd improve the soil, make that $10 hole for your $10 bush. By that idea I'd get some good black cow cow manure, I'd get some peat, I'd really improve the soil. You can't get off to too good a start when you're growing roses. Remember that you're going to have to trim them so a good pair of hand trimmers is probably important. Also remember that you're probably going to have to spray them for black spot, powdery mildew, downy mildew, spider mites and apids. Other than that, they're trouble free. In other words, it does require some effort, ah but for a rose in the morning, a rose is a rose is a rose. You're going to enjoy your roses because they're going to give you a lot of beauty, some fragrance and it makes life better. For some general rose tips 101, I'm askmrgreenthumb, Stan DeFreitas.
