Hi, I'm Stan DeFreitas, Mr. Green Thumb for askmrgreenthumb.com. How do you treat the Double Knock Out Roses? Well, pretty much like you treat other roses. Remember that the Double Knock Outs are going to have the blooms that you're going to have to trim it back, but being a bush type rose, we're not going to trim it back as severely as you do a hybrid T or even a Grand Flora. With the Knock Out Double Roses, when you get some die back or if you have got crossing branches, they've got to come out. Now, we're going to trim a little bit here, and you can see we're going to take out the branch. You're going to make a nice clean cut, and you're going to cut it right back near another branch. When trimming these roses, remember you want to have good, clean sterile equipment, so often I'll go ahead and make sure I clean my cutters with a little 10 percent solution of alcohol or bleach, and I also, of course, want to, or you can use a little bit of heat treatment too, but make sure that you do a good job, a good clean cut and trim them back about one third. I wouldn't trim them back much more than that or you may interfere with some of the flowering. For askmrgreenthumb.com, I'm Stan DeFreitas.
