Hi, I'm Stan DeFreitas, Mr. Green Thumb, for AskMrGreenThumb.com. How do you protect your climbing roses? Well, it's a bit more difficult than some of your smaller bush roses, because, well, they're climbing. They're up over a trellis, or over some type of structure. But, what you might do if you have a really cold day, is get this material, this blanket material that you can buy in almost any almost any nursery garden supply store, we're going to take this, and kind of cover it over the entire plant. We want to try to hold that heat, so we want to kind of cover all the way to the ground if you can. If you've got a nice, large tarp, which is what this package contains, we're going to cover it down to the base, and we'll put some stones or, in this case, an old sprinkler cover, around the bottom to kind of hold it down. Remember, if you can save that radiant heat, you often can make a two or three degree difference in temperature. Plus, you're keeping the frost off that new, tender growth. And, in most cases, roses will come back out of it real well anyway, but if we're going into real hard, freezing conditions, this may help make the difference. For learning more about how to cover over your climbing roses, I'm Stan DeFreitas, Mr. Green Thumb.
