Hello there, I'm Kendall McGuire, Professional Singer in Tampa Bay, Florida, and today, during this short clip, I'll be speaking to you about correct breathing for singing. Well, correct breathing for singing, it all starts with a correct posture. Remember when singing, either standing or sitting to sit up or stand up correctly. We want our shoulders relaxed. We want our tummies sort of tucked in once we take a breath. So, so, when you're breath in, let me explain this a little more detail. You want to sort of this inner tube effect where, "Hhhhhh", we're filling up with air all around, "Hhhhhh", and you're releasing in a solid, strong flow of breath; powerful breath which is that breath which is going to help you get through your phrases. Help you not have to be singing, "Halle-luia". You know, you want to not have to take little breaths in between. You'll be able to carry out these phrases because you've developed that. Now, of course, there's practices you know, that you can do to develop this singing. The, "Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha", working this right here. "Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha". Right? We have the phrase extension exercises, "Hello, how are you?" You know, extending that and extending that. It won't take five minutes on, on the clip to, to hold that note out; you understand it, that would just continue on. So, continue to practice this good breathing. And I'm not talking about the, the belly breathing where you breath in and you get fat, "Whew." And then, you have all these, first of all, you don't look very good on stage. But, we want to breath in here so that our ribs expand and actually, your belly will come in when you take a correct breathing breath, "Hhhhh", and you'll get larger. But, of course, you don't want the shoulders to come up when you take that breath. You don't want to go, "Hmmm", 'cause now we have tension up here and now, we have our vocal codes, chords constricted and tighten and our throat tighten and our jaw tighten, everything is tight. We want relaxation in singing; but, we also want the support of correct vocal breathing. I'm Kendall McGuire, and that is correct vocal breathing.
