This is really a great field, especially if you are by yourself and you want to practice your scales, just find a nice clean channel, turn up your reverb all the way and baby, you're surfing. You want to keep the back of your hand on the fret on your back bridge to try to keep it muted. Otherwise, it's going to be open like this. Now, a lot of the action has be around your right side, your right pick. You want to keep it going but keep it steady but it really sets the tone as to the feel of what you're trying to do with some surfing. You get a couple guys on a couple other guitars doing some solo work, you don't need a bass player, you don't need a drummer, sorry guys because the guys can jam all night with a little bit of surfing. You'd be surfing all night long too, just be careful of the waves, the water run deep.
