Hi, I'm Cori DiSimone, and I'm here to give you some ideas about cowboy arts and activities, you can do with your kids. Today, we're going to make a cowboy hat for your kids. The materials you will need for this are, an empty container, such as an oatmeal container, glue ands scissors. Construction paper, preferably twelve by nine, tape, ribbon or rope, and some thing round in order to trace for round shapes. So, the first step of creating your cowboy hat, is to take an old oatmeal container and a piece of 9 by 12 construction paper. And we're going to be making the rim for your hat, so choose the appropriate color. I'm using orange, you could definitely use brown or white. And place your oatmeal container in the center of that piece of paper, trace around it. Take off your oatmeal container and place a larger, round object, I'm using the top of a pot. Center that over the circle that you have already drawn and trace around that. And now, you're going to cut out around the outer circle and you're going to cut out around the inner circle, so that you have a donut shape. Don't throw out your extra pieces of paper, because you'll want to make about two inch long sections. And these are going to be tabs that hold on the rim of your hat, to the rest of the hat. Next, you are going to tape the tabs down to the rim of your hat. Then you want to put the rim onto your hat, and tape each of these tabs to your hat. Next, we will be decorating the main part of the hat. So, I'm going to tape the two pieces of construction paper together. So they overlap, just a little bit. And then, I'm going to mark where that last piece overlaps. Now, I can remove the sheet and I can create a line to tell me, where my excess is, that I can remove. Drawing my line, straight down. And now, your rim will be in the excess. Now, you're ready to decorate and so, I've already prepared a star, that I want to use in the center of my cowboy hat. And I'll just go ahead and glue that down. Now, that you've finished decorating your hat, which can be much more exciting than mine is, but your kids go nuts. You're going to place it on to your canister. And then, we'll add tape along the seam or you can glue it, if you don't want to see the tape. And now, to really make it look like a cowboy hat. We want to curl up the sides of the brim, like a cowboy hat would. So, all you do is, curl them up a little bit and put a little spot of glue. In order to fix it there, on both sides. So now, your cowboy hat is completed and you're ready to do more cowboy arts and crafts with your kids. Thank you for watching, I'm Cori DiSimone.
