This is Tara Pollak, physical therapist from Evolution Physical Therapy, here to give you tips on pressing or cross friction massage techniques for the Achilles tendon. So Martina, you are going to want to sit with your leg crossed just like that. But you can expose the Achilles tendon. And what we are going to do is work across the fibers to do a friction massage for the Achilles tendon. So, the fibers are running parallel going this way. So, we want our friction to go the opposite direction or perpendicular to those fibers. So, with two thumbs, I want you to press into your Achilles tendon, firm pressure. And then go ahead and move your thumbs up and down going across those fibers. Very good. You can work your way all the way up the Achilles and work your way down the Achilles. You might find some tender points along there. You can pause and then do a little extra friction right there. Good. If causes you any more pain or discomfort I definitely want you to stop the exercise and seek the advice of a skilled physical therapist so that you don't injure yourself any further. I'm Tara, and these are pressing or cross friction massage techniques for the Achilles tendon.
