Hi this is Tara Pollak, Evolution Physical Therapy, and I am here to show you how to massage the calf muscle for Achilles tendon physical therapy. What you are going to do Martina is sit with your legs crossed as you are. And I want you to work from the bottom of the ankle to the top of the knee. So, the calf spends the whole back of the lower leg. So, what you can do is start down at the Achilles tendon with two thumbs and you can work your way massaging up towards the top of the calf. Now, there are two parts of the calf as you come more superior or closer to your knee. There are two heads of the muscle so you can work your way to the top. And then you can also work your way underneath to the bottom. If you find any spots that feel tender to you or maybe a little more firmer to you, you can always pause at those spots applying just a little bit more pressure. And of course if there is any pain or any increase in pain while you do this please stop. And it's always great to seek the advice of a skilled practitioner like a physical therapist to do this technique for you.
