Hello, I'm Michael Piacenza with Advantage Pest Control in Saint Petersburg, Florida. And today's topic is how to kill chinch bugs. Chinch bugs do a lot of damage early in the season to your lawn, especially the St. Augustine type lawns. Chinch bugs are pretty easy to identify. What you're going to be looking for is right up a lawn to the driveway or sidewalk, the road, early in the summer when that starts getting hot, that's what activates them, right? So, they're going to be starting right along next to that sidewalk and start eating their way in. So, it's a pretty definitive pattern. Now, what do you do? So, you want to put down a pesticide. Now, I specialize in trying to use eco friendly environmentally safe products. So, I try to take a pragmatic approach. So, I'll use the safest stuff on the market if I think that's going to take care of it. Or I might mix it with some of the other synthetics. So, if I use a parethrin or a permethrin, or something like that; it's going to stress them and then I mix it in with something like a bifenthrin or some of the other products that are a light synthetic. It makes them more powerful and I can use less of them. So, that's my approach, alright. Now, you can either use a liquid or you can use a granule, alright. And if you got a bad infestation, that's just starting to take off, you might want to do both. Hit it with a liquid spray and then you want to use the granules, so the next time it rains, they'll activate and you hitting them twice. So, that's going to give you your best results. Now, everybody wants to treat the dead area, you know. Well, you want to treat that but the main emphasis is that six to ten foot, you know, section that's around the dead area, alright. Now, get the rest of the lawn because they're going to pop up here and there, right? But those are the main areas to concentrate on. I hope this has been helpful. I'm Michael Piacenza with Advantage Pest Control in Saint Petersburg, Florida. And that is how you kill chinch bugs. Thank you.
