Hello, my name is Mike Rhodes, I'm in Ten Pin Alley in Wilmington, North Carolina. Today, we're going to talk about gripping a bowling ball. For this clip, you will need a bowling ball, bowling shoes, and bowling lanes. One of the common things I see when I'm working with beginning bowlers, is they'll come in and they'll be grouping the ball with these two fingers, like this. That's incorrect, and the reason being is, that it doesn't give you a good control of the ball. What you need to do is, take these two fingers, put them into your first, second joint, like that. Then you want to spread your fingers out and what that does is, that it gives you maximum control when you're throwing the bowling ball. As you become more advanced and you start using a fingertip ball. Once again, you know you're just going to that first joint. It is imperative to keep your fingers going into the exact same spot every time, in order to repeat shots. That's true whether you're a beginner or advanced bowler, the grip of the ball needs to be same every time. So, really pay attention, when you''re putting your fingers in the bowling ball, as to where they're ending up at. If you stick them in too deep, you will not be able to get out the ball properly. Or if you don't put them in deep enough, you're not going to be able to get the lifts you need to throw a proper shot. And that's a proper way to grip a bowling ball.
