Hi, I'm Daniel Robb, a licensed hairstylist from Los Angeles, California, and today I'm going to show you how to fix a hair color mistake. This is my client Bonnie and like many people Bonnie has tried to color her hair herself at home from a box. Sometimes that works out and sometimes it doesn't. In this case it did not. So, Bonnie has come to me and I am going to transform her hair from the color you see now to the color that she had hoped to get. A beautiful, rich warm color that is shiny and vibrant that she will be happy with. The items you'll need are hair color, plastic cap, a hot dryer, good shampoo and a good conditioner and a blow dryer. In Bonnie's case since her hair has gel and styling product in it, in order for the demi permanent color that I am going to use today to take evenly throughout her hair. I am going to cleanse her hair of all the impurities so that her hair is left in a very natural clean state in order to have the color adhere evenly throughout. So, now that my client is prepped, I'm going to apply the demi permanent hair color to her hair. The reason I am using demi permanent hair color is because her hair has already been pre-colored with permanent. So I don't need to do that when I am fixing a hair color mistake. Demi permanent will actually give me the look and result of beautiful, shiny natural hair with the vibrant look that my client originally wanted to achieve. So when applying a color whether it be demi permanent or permanent hair color, standard practice is to start around the face, around the hairline. Being careful just to maintain the color around the hairline not to get it on the client's skin. And once you've applied the color around the face, go to a center parting and then apply at half inch partings from the center moving down the side of the head. I'm applying the color to the roots of the hair first. Once I've applied the color to the roots first, I will go back throughout the head and apply the remaining color to the ends. So next I'm going to apply a plastic cap to my client's hair before putting her under a hot dryer. The reason we use a plastic cap is to encapsulate the heat in order to process the color more thoroughly. So next I am going to put my client under a hot dryer. She should take about 30 minutes or so to process. At this point we are going to wash the color out of the client's hair. For this specific step I am going to use a hydrating moisturizing shampoo for color treated hair. This will help preserve the color, soften the hair and make it silky and manageable. Now that my client's hair is thoroughly cleanses and rinse and all the residual color is out of her hair I am going to condition. This is a very simple process. I am going to use a hydrating conditioner that will soften her hair and make it very manageable to work with. So, now we are at our final step and at this point we are going to blow dry her hair and see if we got the desired amazing result we were looking for. Ready for the reveal. I'm Daniel Robb, thank you for watching my video on how to fix a hair color mistake.
