Hi. My name is Nicole Nassief from The Wedding League in Los Angeles, California, and today I'm going to discuss how to choose your wedding theme. The important thing when you're thinking about a wedding, and the theme that you want to have, is that theme really is a foundation for everything and every decision you make from this point on. So for example, once you pick your theme you can then start to choose your venue, maybe even the type of dress can go along with the theme...everything down to the escort cards and to the favors. So, one of the main fears I keep hearing from brides and grooms are that they're so worried that they're going to have a cookie-cutter wedding, that it's not going to stand out, and they just don't know how to pick that right theme that really fits them. So, what I've done is I've developed a process that I put all of my clients through when they first come through the doors. It's a great way to choose your wedding theme that's really fit just for you and your fiance. The first step out of that process is I tell them to grab a couple of notebooks, clear out their calendar for like a Saturday or a Sunday afternoon, and just sit down with each other and have a date. During that time, you should discuss what is important to you for your wedding. What do you want? Your needs, your desires... and you should ask each other such questions as "Do you want to have children at the wedding? How many people do you want at the wedding? Is this an 18 and over affair? Do you want it to be black tie? Do you want it to be indoors, outdoors?" So really just try to center on what you guys are wanting as the party as a whole. The next step in the process is to then think about what defines you as a couple. Taking what you already talked about in your first step of what do you want for your wedding, or at your wedding, think about things that you like to do together that you can possibly bring into it. So, for example, if you are a couple that constantly likes to travel, maybe we have a travel theme. Or maybe you go salsa dancing every Friday night as a date, so then we can add that fun salsa dance surprise into it. So, just definitely think about what defines you as a couple. And then the third and last step is to add your personal traits, so your personalities...both as individuals and as a couple. As a couple, if you are loud and like to throw parties and are extroverts, so then maybe you have like a club feel theme, where there's lots of dancing and disco ball and surprises. Or at the same time, maybe you are more laid back. You want a smaller, intimate affair. Depending on what kind of a couple you are and what defines you, you can have something as small and cute as like a garden wedding, or something grand as a Star Wars themed wedding. Just make sure it's very important that you sit down together and talk about what you want, what defines you, and what your personality traits that can easily be brought into the wedding.
